For an early glimpse at Monolith Soft's upcoming RPG, which is slated to release sometime in 2017, check out the announcement trailer for Xenoblade Chronicles 2 below.
In Xenoblade Chronicles 2, players will assume the role of an entirely new hero, who "will seek out Elysium on an immense journey through a brand-new world."
Tetsuya Takahasi, the executive director on the original Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles X, is also on board as executive director for Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Masatsugu Saito is handling the character design, and the music is being crafted by Chrono Trigger composer Yasunori Mitsuda, as well as ACE, Kenji Hiramatsu and Manami Kiyota. The trailer shows off all the things people loved about the original Xenoblade Chronicles – wide open areas, colourful characters, and classic anime-style drama.
There’s no footage of the game’s combat, unfortunately, but there’s a sense of scale – it looks like the big enemies will be really damn big.
The game, shown as Xenoblade 2 but referred to as Xenoblade Chronicles 2 in North America, will look familiar to Xenoblade fans, with its fabulous, futuristic cities and vast plains, but appears to feature a new cast of characters.
The previous entry in the series, Xenoblade Chronicles, was released for Wii in 2013 and later ported to New Nintendo 3DS. A spiritual successor, Xenoblade Chronicles X, was released for Wii U in 2015.
Presumably, it will be a direct sequel to the original Xenoblade Chronicles, rather than carrying on from Xenoblade Chronicles X.
According to Monolith Software, the latest entry to the series stars “a new hero who will seek out Elysium on an immense journey through a brand-new world.”
Tetsuya Takahashi returns to direct the game, Masatsugu Saito is deigning the characters and the music is being handled by Yasunori Mitsuda, ACE, Kenji Hiramatsu and Manami Kiyota.
Hopefully we’ll find out more about the game soon. No release date was announced, just the aforementioned 2017 release window.
